she stands
resurrected like the phoenix
from ashes to stone
neither Jacobite religious rising
nor fueding clans could vanquish her spirit from the highlands
where her majesty took root
she stands
in the shadows of silent memories
shades of yesteryear stain now
the chambers of her empty heart
that once were filled with golden nights and Uilleann pipes
straining in Celtic streams
she
stands
in monastic glory bound to the bosom of melancholy
as lonesome gulls wing their way o’er soaring cliffs and waters gray
while ancient dreams the gods redeem
she
stands
held in the arms of my ancestors
now laid to rest ‘neath the rocky shores
of lochs three waiting now
for the spirits of stone
to set them free
she
stands
in silent reverie
whispers now the songs she sings in silence
memories glaze her pale face
as the sun fades
and the night winds blow her tomorrows away
and still
she
stands
still
she stands
her name
is
