The Globetrotter’s Glossary: Word of the Day is Interimmigrant

Interimmigrant (n.)

Variables: Interimmigration, Interimmigrancy.

Roots: Interim & Immigrant (Click on the links to find the meanings of the root words on Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

Definition: A person who has–voluntarily or involuntarily–come to live in a new country or space possibly only for an interim.

Example: Michael Corleone’s exile or interim-immigration to Corleone, in Sicily, is ironic because it happens to be the birthplace of his father, and the village from which he takes his name; but even then he is at best an interimmigrant, on the road to reclaiming his Italianate aesthetics in an American identity.
