Sujaan Mukherjee is pursuing doctoral research under the SYLFF fellowship at the Department of English, Jadavpur University. He recently completed his term as archival fellow of the India Foundation for the Arts, where he was based at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences (Calcutta). The project involved research on Kolkata’s tourism history. He has been engaged with the ‘Envisioning the Indian City’ project, a collaboration between Jadavpur University and the University of Liverpool. His areas of interest include urban studies, physical and martial cultures, modernism, and feminisms.
The liberty from "the drudgery of being useful," that it briefly enjoyed on the collector’s shelf, is destroyed with its reinsertion into the currency of use where it stands in for the past as representative, as witness.
