Snehashish Mitra is a doctoral candidate at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore. In his thesis, he is studying urbanization and associated contestations in Guwahati, the largest city in Northeast India. The study interrogates how the sub-regional integrations across Southeast Asia are giving rise to a vernacular urbanism in the borderlands. Mitra has been associated with the Calcutta Research Group and has worked on policy issues, migration and urbanization, with Northeast India as the field. He holds a keen interest in the informal labour networks and looks forward to interrogate these networks in his native place of Kolkata and elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
